Path care, Diagnostic Service Provider in Hyderabad has started a bank for the storage of Stem cells taken from the Umbilical cord. This is first of its in our state and second in south India. There is an increasing concern about the importance of the stem cells in the treatment of many diseases like cancer etc. This is also gaining prominence as insurance for the future health of the babies. Already there are stem cell banks managed by Reliance Life Sciences, Life Cell, Cryo Banks International, and Cordlife Sciences etc. and now Path Care has entered this field under the brand name Cord care. Stem cells are present in the blood of Umbilical cord at the time of birth. These stem cells can be changed into different types of cells.

Fees: Rs.75, 000

Bank has been established in Marredpally of Hyderabad with a capacity to store stem cells of One Lakh babies. This is going to be developed to store 9 lakhs samples in and surrounding of Hyderabad. A fee of Rs.75, 000 is charged to store stem cells up to 21 years. This has to be paid in one payment. There is a chance of getting 100 samples per month. Trained staff will collect the stem cells in blood of umbilical cord in the 800 collection centers (Points) of Path Care across the country. In the beginning Andhra Pradesh market is focused. Presently, the banks under the four companies have capacity to store 4-5 lakhs samples. Till now 25,000 stem cells of babies have been stored by their parents in these banks.
