In Jharkhand various types of ration cards are issued to people based on their requirement and financial status.  They are –

  • Annapurna card:  These are meant for persons who are above  years of age and have no support and do not get old age pension
  • Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) cards: Antyodaya Anna Yojana cards are for very poor families living in urban slums and rural areas.
  • Below the Poverty Line (BPL) cards: These are also issued to poor families living in urban slums and rural areas.
  • APL cards: Above the Poverty Line cards are issued to families who are above the poverty line.

In Ranchi, Bokaro, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, commodities that are given under Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) are rice, wheat, sugar and kerosene.  For BPL/AAY families, the commodities are supplied at subsidized prices.  Depending upon the availability of commodities, APL card holders will be given rice and wheat.  Sugar is given to only BPL/AAY cardholders.

In Jharkhand, persons who do not already possess a ration card can apply for one by producing a certificate obtained from Panchayat Pradhan/Halta Karmachari/Nigam Parshad saying that the person has no ratio card.  This document shall be attached to the ration card application form.  In case if the existing card is lost, defaced, the cardholder can apply for a duplicate ratio card.  Persons who are transferred from place to place can apply for a ration card in new place by surrendering the old ration card.  Name of the spouse of child can also be included in the existing ration cards by applying to concerned authorities.

Authorities concerned for issuing ration card are the Panchayat Pardhan/Nigam Parsad/Halka Kramchari/Tax Collector/Panchayat Sewak.  In rural areas, the issuing authority of ration cards in Jharkhand is the Block Supply Officer; Assistant District supply Officer/Marketing Officer is the authority in Urban slums and in rationing areas, the authorities are the rationing officer or marketing officer.

Application for ration card in Jharkhand shall be made in Form 2.  Supporting documents that shall be submitted along with the application for ration card are the current rent receipt, nagar nigam house hold tax receipt, residential certificate and any two of landline telephone bill/electricity bill/voter Id card/PAN card/driving license/Bank passbook.

The application for ration card in Jharkhand shall be submitted along with all the necessary documents to the Block Level Supply Officer in rural areas and Sub Divisional / district level supply officer in urban areas.
