This is the best time for candidates who want to join bank PO jobs. 9 banks are conducting written tests in the coming two months (December 2010 and January 2011) for the recruitment of probationary officers. Excepting the case of grade B officers exam conducted by RBI, all other exams would be in same pattern. More than four thousand PO posts are offered in various banks. More importance for reasoning section in Bank PO jobs
In the bank PO tests, reasoning abilities is tested mainly. Hence, there are more marks categorized for reasoning division of almost all exams conducted by various banks. It is to be noted that of the total marks, 40% marks are categorized forÂ reasoning section. Section that provides scope to score more is reasoning section.
More number of questions from analytical and logical reasoning division will be asked in reasoning division. One can know the importance given to this section when 80 marks out of 200 marks are allotted to this section. So, allot more time to this section in your preparation. Exam conducted by corporation bank will be for 300 marks. 140 marks in this test are allotted for reasoning section. 35 marks are allotted for computer knowledge section. Both of them sum up for 175 marks. Hence, donâ€™t neglect reasoning section in your preparation.
Reasoning questions can be categorized in to three types. They are reasoning or common sense reasoning, analytical reasoning and non verbal reasoning. For PO exams, one should gain full command on all these types of questions. Marks scored in reasoning will be considered for finalÂ marks. Hence, focus on this section.
There is increasing significance for computer knowledge in bank exams. Computer knowledge category is added to the question paper in Punjab and Sindh Bank, Corporation Bank exams. Computer knowledge category is present in the SBI associates clerical exam to be conducted in January. Questions in this category would be of basic level to test the awareness of the candidate about computers. Hence, candidates can score more marks with minimum effort, in this section.
Practice more in Quantitative section of bank PO exams
Quantitative aptitude is the section that has much prominence after reasoning. More marks can be obtained in this section with much hard work. There is much importance for analytical skills in this section. One should prepare to analyze given data using basics and primary aspects, in order to answer these questions.
One should practice more on theÂ topics of percentages, ratios, loss-gain, and others. Focus more on permutation and combination, mensuration, elementary algebra, probability and other aspects.

General awareness section of bank PO exams is expanding
General awareness section ofÂ few bank PO exams, would not only contain questions related to current affairs but would also be containing questions related to computer knowledge. UCO bank PO exam would be having general awareness and computer related questions in a single section. In the same way, few banks are asking financial awareness questions in general awareness category. In this context, candidates not only need to focus on current affairs, but also should study banking, economy, finance related basic points and wordings. Marketing related questions can also be asked in this section.
English of bank PO exams are considered for ranking
Earlier, marks scored in English section were not considered for ranking. It was enough to get minimum eligibility marks. But now the scene has changed. English marks are now considered in final ranking. Candidates should know the importance of preparing for English category because there is need to score minimum marks in each section, despite of less percentage of marks when compared to other divisions. For Union Bank of India PO exam, English isÂ still a qualifying exam.
There are no negative marks in Corporation bank exam. There is negative marking in all the remaining bank exams. So, it is better not to answer the questions based on imaginations or expectations.
