B.E marine engineering Entrance, Fees, eligibility details

We can join in four years marine engineering offered by Indian marine university. By writing a common entrance exam, we can do B.E in marine engineering.

Eligibility: 10+2 (physics, chemistry, mathematics) and 60% marks in intermediate.

Age: Their age should be below 25 years.

DME course: Those who completed diploma in mechanic/marine/ ship building/ naval architecture/ electrical are eligible.

Pre- sea training:

Those who completed mechanical engineering/naval architecture are eligible for this course. Those who completed this course are given a class-4 engineer certificate from Indian government from shipping ministry.


They can enter the merchant navy course in two ways. One is Indian maritime university common test. By passing this test, they can get admission in IMU and in 120 institutes across the country. Most of the training institutes are in Mumbai and Chennai and the course fee ranges from 2.2 lakhs to 2.25 lakhs.

Eligibility: They should pass intermediate with 55% marks in MPC branch. The notification for this is given in March. The entrance is similar to other engineering courses and separate preparation is not required. There will be 6 months pre-sea training session in institutes recognized by DG. Few private companies sponsor some students and provide them jobs after the completion of course. Those who are sponsored in this way need not attend the counseling done by IMU.
