 Carrying pets in trains

People worry over their pet dog’s safety when they have to leave their pets in friends’ houses or in kennels when they go out of station. Many people do not know that they can take their pets along with them when they travel in train. Passengers who travel by AC first class or First class can take the pet dog along with them when they have booked a two berth or four berth compartment exclusively for their use. Passengers of other classes cannot carry the pet along with them but the pets can be booked in luggage/brake van.

  • Pet dogs can be booked and carried just like other goods.
  • Animal boxes are available in rail guard bogie.
  • Pet owners have to take a ticket for the pet in the railway parcel section.

Charges for pet dog will be collected in the train based on the distance and weight of the pet. For hundred kilograms the passenger has to pay Rs. 80. For example, price for Secunderabad to Vijayawada is Rs. 80; Secunderabad to Delhi Rs. 414 and from Hyderabad to Mumbai is Rs. 164.
