Changes in CSIR-NET exam pattern

CSIR-UGC NET exam will be conducted in five subjects.  They are

  • Chemical sciences
  • Earth Sciences
  • Life Sciences
  • Mathematical Sciences
  • Physical sciences

Question paper pattern of CSIR-UGC NET will be changed from June, 2011.  Earlier there used to be two papers.  From June, 2011 there will be only one paper.  All the questions will be of multiple choice method.  Question paper will be for 2 marks.  Duration of the exam is 3 hours.  Question paper will have 3 sections.

Part A: This section contains 20 questions from General Science, Quantitative Reasoning and Analysis and Research Aptitude.  Candidates have to answer 15 questions.  Each question carried 2 marks and total marks for this section are 30.  This section is the same for all subject candidates.

Part B: This is the section containing questions from subject selected by the candidates.  50 objective questions from the subject syllabus will be asked in this section.   Candidates have to answer 35 question.  Marks allotted for this section is 70.

Part C: Questions in this section will test the awareness, grasp and application knowledge of candidates.  There will be 5 questions and only 25 questions will have to be answered by candidates.  Marks allotted for this section are 100.

  • 0.25 negative marks are given for each wrong answer.

Candidates who study various subjects in post graduate level will appear for CSIR.  Keeping this in view more choice is given in subject sections.  For example there will be candidates who studied Microbiology, Zoology, Biochemistry, Botany etc in Biology.  Candidates can expect at least 10 questions from their respective subjects.

Though the pattern of question paper is changed there may not be change in the level of questions.  Question will come mostly from CSIR prescribed syllabus. Candidates will have to prepare well for questions that require analyzation.  Common syllabus followed by various universities is taken into consideration.  Therefore candidates should regularly study the syllabus books and should revise them.  They should practice model question papers and old question papers.

Medium of examination

Candidates who have studied in Telugu medium till graduation hesitate to write CSIR exam.  Most of the universities offer post graduation courses in English medium.  If the candidate has subject knowledge it will not be difficult for them to get success in CSIR-UGC NET.  They should have the ability to understand the subject in English.

Question in CSIR-UGC NET will be in simple English.  Candidates who study their subject books which are in English can easily understand these questions.  Many candidates from rural areas are also becoming successful in CSIR-JRF.

It is not compulsory to take coaching for CSIR-JRF.  Concentration in preparation and determination to be successful are sufficient.  Those who take coaching may have benefits like opportunity to discuss the subject with other students and get clarity in the subject.

Fundamentals in respective subjects

Preparing well in basics and fundamentals of their respective subjects is crucial for getting success in CSIR exam. Hard working nature is very important for the candidate.  Positive thinking and attitude are the additional qualifications.  Candidates should read fundamentals of subjects and they can read books from 8th class to post graduation. Books of intermediate and graduation will have subject basics.  CBSE books are also very helpful.  After completing schools level books, candidates should study MSc syllabus.  Knowing the latest developments in respective subjects is very important.  A six months rigorous preparation can guarantee success in CSIR-UGC NET.
