Changes in civil services from 2011
Amendments are going to be made in the civil services examination conducted by UPSC from 2011. Recently, Prime minister’s approval is got by the civil services aptitude test which will be conducted in the place of preliminary test. Since the notification has been released for this year, these changes will be in effect from next year onwards.
There will be two objective papers in the civil services aptitude test (CSAT) with equal weightage. They are:
• Aptitude for civil services
• Ethical and Moral Dimension of Decision-Making
These two papers will be in the place of present general studies and optional papers.
It is not new to implement changes in the civil services examination which is intended for the admission into highest services like IAS, IPS, IFS and IRS. There are proposals to make changes in the main exam after research conducted by expert’s team. Earlier also, many committees, two governance improvisation teams have suggested to test the aptitude of a candidate rather than subject knowledge.
