Contributing to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund

 

Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund was initiated after India became independence. The fund was created to provide immediate relief to people who are in need not help. The fund receives voluntary donations from the public. The fund offers assistance to people who suffered from floods, earthquakes and cyclones. The fund is also used to help the families who are affected by riots and accidents. The poor can also obtain help from the Prime ministers relief fund for the expensive medical treatments such as cancer treatment, kidney transplantation or heart surgery.

Since the creation of Prime minister’s National relief fund, lakhs of people have profited from the assistance they received. The contributions made by public to the fund are fully exempted from income tax up to prescribed limits. The donations are also excluded from taxable gifts computation. For contributing to the Prime Minister’s relief fund, persons have to deposit the money in the selected branches of Central Bank of India, Bank of India, State Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank, Punjab National Bank or Syndicate Bank. The deposits have to be made through only cheques of bank drafts taken in favor of ‘Prime Ministers Relief Fund’. Acknowledgement for the contribution will be given by the bank and the donation will be deposited in the fund account. The Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund will issue the formal receipt for the contributions received. To receive the formal receipt the depositors should take care that the pay-in-slip is filled properly.

People who do not reside in India need to deposit their donations in the Indian Mission at their place or in any selected branches of State Bank of India which will be transferred to Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
