Obtain death certificate in Mizoram

Every death in Mizoram has to be reported to the concerned authorities and a death certificate shall be obtained.  Death certificates are helpful for obtaining heirship certificates, claiming of pension, insurance or other benefits.

Every death in Aizwal, Lawngtlai, Lunglei in Mizoram must be registered in the prescribed time of twenty one days to the registrars of Births & amp; Deaths.  After 21 days but within 30 days from the date of occurrence of death, it can be registered by taking permission of the Registrar and by paying a fee of Rs. 2.  After one month and before one year, Rs. 5 is to be paid and the permission of Additional Chief Registrar of Births and Deaths shall be taken.  First Class Magistrate permission has to be obtained for registering deaths after one year along with paying the fee of Rs. 10 in Mizoram.

Application forms for obtaining death certificates in Mizoram can be taken from the DC office counter during the working hours of the office by paying Rs. 5.  Submitted application forms will be verified by the local Registrar of Births and Deaths.
