Christian Medical College of Ludhiana is one the best medical colleges in India. The medical services initiated by Christian missionaries in Ludhiana gradually developed into medical college. In 1881, Green field sisters of Christian missionaries have started the medical services. Maratha Rose, K Green field of Scotland used to take part in the medical services. Hence, they were called as Green field sisters. Dr. Edith Mary Brown has joined them. In 1894, she started North Indian School of Medicine for Women with an intention of training women to serve the medical field. From then, till 1954, it flourished as a training centre for women. Till 1952, they used to give LSLF certificate for the one who got trained here. In 1953, this was turned to MBBS. From then, both men and women were given admissions. In the next decade itself PG programs have been started. Courses offered by CMC are approved by the Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridabad.

CMC offers degree, post diploma, PG, super specialty, doctoral courses in Medicine. 25 seats each for boys and girls are allotted in 50 seats of MBBS which has approval of Medical council of India. CMC has requested for the increase of seats to another 50 which is still pending at Medical council of India.
In 1889, Green field sisters have started nursing training. In 1936, general nursing program was initiated which in 1973 emerged into a nursing college. M.Sc course in nursing was started in 1987. Presently, there are five specialties here.
Dental health division has been a part of community health services from 1968. It is getting closer to the villages since 1984. CMC has started BDS in 1992 and MDS in 2002.
Physiotherapy College was started in 2002. It is best ones in the north India for the education of physiotherapy. This college is famous as Brown Memorial College with 775 beds. Along with training, diploma courses are also present in the laboratory and other medical care aspects.
Merit basis in CMC, Ludhiana admissions
Admission into MBBS, BDS, B.Sc Nursing, BPT courses are got based on merit. A bond or agreement has to be signed stating that they should work at least two years in the society run hospital or institute. Candidate aspiring to do MBBS here should have minimum 17 years of age as of December 2010. Foreign students of Indian origin can also apply but there is a different application for them. Candidates having at least 50 % marks in the Bi P C subjects of intermediate are eligible to get admitted into this course.
Written test will be in the month of May. It is conducted from 10 am to 12.30 pm. Bible test for Christian students is conducted on the same day from 1 pm to 1.30 pm. In the main test, along with physics, chemistry, biology, there will be multiple choice questions on aptitude test also. There will be 50 questions in each division. Bible test will be in English. 50 questions are asked in objective form.
Written test is conducted in 11 centres across the nation. There is no centre in Andhra Pradesh. Nearest to Andhra Pradesh is Chennai and Nagpur test centre. MBBS, BDS aspiring candidates should get at least 50 % marks in the general aptitude and other subjects together. Christian students should get 50 % marks in the Bible test. This bible test marks are not included in the merit. In the case of same marks tie between students, physics, chemistry, biology aggregate marks, marks in biology, higher age are considered.
