Obtain marriage certificate in Sikkim

 

Two types of marriage certificates are issued in Sikkim one type is for couple who are already married and other type is for court marriages.

Court Marriage Certificate

For obtaining court marriage certificate in Sikkim, either of the bride or bridegroom shall be a permanent resident of India. Concerned authorities for providing marriage certificates are all the District Collectors’ offices. The form will be available in the single window counter of District Collector’s office which has to be duly filled and submitted to the Marriage Officer.

Court marriage certificates in Gangtok, Pelling, Gezing in Shimla are issued to the applicants who submit their application to the marriage officer with the following necessary documents.

  • Identity certificate
  • Two passport sized photos
  • Date of birth certificate
  • Local people have to submit the Panchayat report
  • Bank receipt for the value Rs. 20.

After receiving the application for court marriage, the application in posted in the notice board of the district Collectorate in Sikkim. For people of other towns and cities, the copy of the notice/application will be end to the respective district marriage officers. For those who reside outside the country, the notice of one month will be issued to the Embassy. After one month of notice period is completed without receiving any objections, the marriage will be registered for which witnesses from both the bride and bridegroom’s party shall be present.

Marriage certificate for already married people

Marriage certificates are issued in Sikkim for already married couple under Hindu Marriage Act. Either the bride or the bridegroom shall be permanent resident of Shimla to become eligible to obtain marriage certificate. The certificates are issued by all the District Collectors’ offices in Sikkim and the application forms are present in the offices. The forms have to be duly filled and submitted to the marriage officer.

Identity certificate, birth certificate, Panchayat report in case of locals, bank receipt of Rs.20 and two passport size photographs are to be submitted along with the application for obtaining marriage certificate by already married couple in Shimla. After the application is received, the marriage officer sends for a police verification report to the concerned police station. Only after obtaining the report, the marriage certificate is issued to the applicant.
