Engineering seat and Mechanical Engineer job with a single application | How to apply for the entrance test which is conducted by UPSC

Studying Engineering and getting a job as an engineer are two different tasks. Both these can be accomplished at the same time.   Generally students of Intermediate, who are studying Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry subjects want to pursue engineering.  Not only engineering seat but a job is also assured on completion of this course.  Indian Railways is providing this opportunity to join in Mechanical Engineering course on qualifying in the test conducted by Union Public Service commission.  One can join as a Mechanical engineer after completing the course.  Only drawback is that there is a chance to work as an Engineer in Mechanical Engineering department only.

Special Class Railway Apprentice Examination is the first stage, for joining as an Engineer in Indian railways directly.  Union Public Service Commission conducts this exam in various cities of India.  Selected candidates can join the Engineering Course.  If the course is completed in stipulated time, the candidate is taken in to service and the pay scale is also implemented.

Selected candidates will have to undergo theory and practical training in Railway workshops for four years.  During this time the candidate has to complete the Council of Engineering Institution Examination (London) or Associate Membership of engineering (India) Section A, Section B.  Candidates are recruited in to Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineering only after successfully completing the prescribed course exams apart from practical training.

Entrance test for admission into this course is conducted by UPSC.  Notification has been released for the test to conduct this test in 2010.  Candidates who finished Intermediate or equivalent exam with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry subjects are eligible for this test.  This test is going to e help on 19th December.  Hyderabad, Tirupati and Visakhapatnam are the exam centers in Andhra Pradesh. This test is also held in Chennai, Bangalore etc.

Applications can be had from selected post offices on paying Rs.20.  Application in Andhra Pradesh are available at Hyderabad GPO, Hyderabad Jubilee, Kachiguda Station, Khairatabad, Secunderabad, Tirumalagiri, Adilabad, Anantapur, Guntur (Arundalpet), Chittoor, Cuddapah, Eluru, Kakinada, Karimnagar, Khammam, Kurnool, Machilipatnam, Mehboobnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Nellore, Nizamabad, Ongole, Vizianagaram,  Vijayawada. Vikarabad, Visakhapatnam, Warangal. Applications are available in Karnataka at Bangalore GPO, Bangalore City, Basavanagudi, HAL Second stage, Jayanagar, R T Nagar, Belgam, Bidar and Dharwad.  Chennai GPO, Annaroad, St. Thomas Mount, T Nagar in Tamilnadu are also selling applications.  In Orissa applications can be had from post offices at Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, and Perlakimidi etc.

The age of the candidates should be between 17 – 21 years by 1st August of this year.  For reserved categories the age is relaxed as per the rules.  Rs. 50 is to be paid as exam fee by all the candidates except SC, ST candidates.  Central Recruitment Fees Stamp for the value has to be pasted on the application.  Application can be sent through online.  An exam fee in this method is Rs.25 only.  Fees have to be paid in SBI branches.  The last date for sending application through online is 20th September, 2010.  These can be sent till 11:59 at night.
