Why is GSE exam conducted? | How to do the P.Hd and M.Tech in the TIFR institutions?

The TIFR helped a lot to do the research in the fundamental sciences. It had helped in forming many scientists and it got the honor of deemed university in May, 2002 from UGC (university grants commission). The TIFR is the good stage for the students to become scientists and it is providing the M.Sc, P.Hd and integrated P.Hd courses in the subjects like biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and physics.

Three schools:

The TIFR is divided into three schools and they are school of natural sciences, the school of technology and computer science and the school of mathematics. There are other three national centers and they are national center of biological sciences in Bangalore, the national center for radio astrophysics in Pune and Homi Baba center for science education in Mumbai. They are establishing a new campus in Hyderabad in an area of 200 acres.

Many branches:

There are many opportunities in the subjects like basic mathematics to computers and systems in the P.Hd category.

  • P.Hd -Mathematics – TIFR in Mumbai and center for applied mathematics in Bangalore.
  • P.Hd – Physics, chemistry, computer science and biology: TIFR in Mumbai and center for biological sciences in Bangalore.
  • Integrated P.Hd – mathematics: Center for applied mathematics in Bangalore.
  • Integrated P.Hd – biology: National center for biological sciences in Bangalore and TIFR in Mumbai.
  • M.Sc – Biology:  TIFR in Mumbai.

Eligibility:

  • P.Hd in mathematics (Mumbai): M.Sc/B.E/B.Tech/M.Tech/M.A/B.A/ B.Sc.
  • P.Hd in mathematics (Mumbai): M.A/M.Sc
  • Integrated P.Hd (Bangalore): B.E/B.Tech/ B.A/ B.Sc.
  • P.Hd – Physics and chemistry: M.Sc/B.E/B.Tech/M.Tech and final year B.Sc students with good academic result.
  • P.Hd – biology: master in basic sciences/ bachelors in advance science, MBBS, BDS and M.pharm.
  • Integrated P.Hd/ M.Sc biology: any bachelor degree in basic science and physics and chemistry students are also available.
  • P.Hd in computers and system sciences: BE/B.Tech/ME/MCA/M.Tech/M.Sc. Candidates with computer science/ electrical engineering/ electronics engineering/ information technology. The final year candidates with good academic result are also eligible. The candidates in other subjects can also apply.

Scholarships:

P.Hd: They will get a scholarship of Rs.16000 per month and they will get an internship of

Rs.20, 000 per year.

Integrated P.Hd (biology/ mathematics):

They will give Rs.16000 per month and Rs.18000 per month from third year. There will be tuition fee also in the total.

M.Sc biology:

They will get Rs.12000 per month and they will get Rs.2000 as fee per year.

Selection process:

The entrance for few courses are given based on the entrance exam and they conduct the TIFR exam every year through graduate school exam. The applications for this year’s exam are submitted and the exam is conducted in 23 centers. The candidates selected in this process should attend an interview and the candidates from Andhra Pradesh should write the exam in Hyderabad University and Andhra University.

GSE exam- 2011 application process:

They should apply through online and those who are not having the internet facility should write the application letter and send in the 25*17cm along with the own address. They should paste Rs.20 stamps on the envelope and write GSE -2011.

For biology:

NCBS,

Bangalore.

For other subjects:

Assistant register (Academic),

TIFR, Mumbai.

They should send separate applications for various subjects and they should send the completed applications with Rs.550 DD. They should register with a different E-Mail ID and they can send the DD through online with the help of debit/credit card. They should write their name, reference code and number back of the DD. They should take the DD with the name as national center for biological sciences for the biology subject in the state bank of India in Bangalore. They should take the DD with the name as Tata institute of fundamental research in the state bank of India in Mumbai.

No application:

Even though they did not apply for the exam, they can write the exam. They should attend the exam center before two hours and pay a DD of Rs.800 along with two passport size photos and write the exam by showing any identity card with photo. This facility is not available in Delhi and there will be concession for the female candidates.

Physics, chemistry, computer and system sciences: December 12th, 2010 (morning).

Mathematics, biology: December 12th, 2010 (afternoon)

Duration: 3 years

The exam will be conducted in objective type.
