Hair donated by the devotees is exported to many countries | 30 to 40 tons of hair is exported every year
Most of the people know that there are people who buy the hair and make wigs and sell them. The hair in the traditional places is taken and exported to foreign countries. Most of the people get a doubt about what happens to the hair in Tirupathi which is donated by the devotees. There is big business done with this hair and the people who manage the temple will call for contract tenders. They deposit in lakhs based on the popularity of the temple and those who bid for more amount in the auction will get the contract of the hair in that temple for whole year. The people should bid for one crore to get the contracts in the famous temples like Srisailam and Tirupathi. There will be separate season for the hair business and the season may be festivals, holidays and celebrations. The hair will be sent to the people who are appointed in the temples and they will grade the hair.
The hair of the males wonâ€™t be useful and they separate the hair of the females according to the size. The hair of the females will be mixed and they separate them with special devices. They will hold the hair in the hand and they cut at the ends. They tie the hair with threads and pack them. There are many companies in Andhra Pradesh and some big companies are also entering this field. The hair is mostly sent to Kolkata, Chennai etc. There are big companies which export the hair to Brazil, Russia and other countries. The hair costs Rs.500 when bought and after the process, it will cost up to Rs.1300 to Rs.1500. Â Every year, 30 to 40 tons of hair is exported.
