Winter food tips for improving body immunity

There will be lot of changes in weather during winter season.   As the temperature decreases, viruses will attack the body.   It is therefore important to improve immunity of the body.   At the same time few precautions about diet are to be followed to keep the skin bright and healthy, to maintain body weight etc.

To improve immunity one has to provide the body with sufficient quantities of Vitamin A, C, Antioxidants, Minerals, Zinc, Magnesium, Omega 3, 9 fats etc.   Food in which these are available should be included in the diet and at the same time one has to avoid few food substances.

  • Since weather will be cold in winter season only fresh food is to be taken.   Viruses cause cold and fever so as far as possible taken only fresh and hot food.
  • See that the food is not spicy.   Fried food should be avoided. Ginger, garlic and turmeric have the property to increase heat in the inner body.   These should be used extensively in the preparation of food.
  • Eat only freshly cooked food.   Fruit salads, fruit juices should also be taken when they are fresh.
  • For improving immunity eat fresh fruits in various colors and green vegetables in winter.
  • Oranges, goose berries which are available in winter season are good sources of Vitamin C.   These improve the immunity power of the body and protect the body from various diseases.
  • Many people do not take water in winter since they do not feel thirsty.   But body needs sufficient water in this season also.   One should drink at least eight glasses of water daily.   Those who are not able to drink the water at room temperature should take warm water.   Water percentage in body can also be replenished by taking fruits.
  • It is not possible for everyone to prepare soups at home.   Readymade soup mixes are available in the market in various flavors like Vegetable, Tomato, Chicken etc.   These soups can be prepared easily at home and hot soups give energy to the body in winter season.
  • Oats and dates are energy giving food for winter season.   These can be added to hot milk.   These provide Calcium and Fiber to the body.
  • In the evening time it is better to take sprouts as evening snacks.   Keera, carrot, cucumber and tomato salads also can be taken.

Though everybody loves to consume hot tea or coffee in the cold winter weather, drinking lots of tea and coffee damage the health.   Though these give temporary relief from cold, there will be long term bad effects.   Instead of coffee and tea one can drink black tea, green tea or hot soups.
