How the Krishnashtami festival is celebrated in India?

God himself had descended on this earth through the womb of Devakidevi on the midnight of Sravana Bahula Astami.  He came to earth to decrease the burden of earth.  He uplifted all the people around him with his love.  Janmastami/Krishnashtami is the birth day of Lord Krishna.  This is celebrated all over India.  On this day devotees get up early in the morning, and worship Lord Krishna after taking bath.  They fast during the day and in the evening; statue of Lord Krishna is taken in procession.  Then the statue is placed in a cradle.  Worshipping the statue which is in the form of Devakidevi breast-feeding Lord Krishna is also auspicious.  Then milk, butter, fruits and rice flakes which are the favourites of Lord Krishna are offered as Nayweedyam to the God.  According to the legends consuming nayweedyam which is offered to God as prasadam gives success in everything we do.  According to the Skanda Puraana, worshipping Lord Krishna, reading Bhagawatam and donating food and money to poor on this holy day washes us of all sins and chaturvidha phala purushardhaalu (Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha) can be attained.
