Humanities and social sciences are being offered by IITs and there are integrated MA programs also along with these courses. Intermediate is the eligibility for MA courses. IIT Madras had released the notification for humanities and social sciences entrance examinations â€“ 2011 for admissions into integrated MA courses in English. This course is conducted by department of humanities and social sciences.
Humanities Course specialties
There will be more interaction between the students and teachers. Classes will be conducted to develop the behavior of the candidate and to increase their knowledge. Self confidence, communication skills, soft skills and professionalism which are required for the students in this competitive world are taught in this course. There is campus placement cell and credit based system is introduced. There is no need to search for the job after the completion of course.

- Integrated MA in development studies
- Integrated MA in English studies
The duration of the courses is five years. There are 46 seats in total in which 23 are for integrated MA in development studies and 23 are for integrated MA in English studies. The eligibility for the courses is 10+2/ intermediate and final year students are also eligible. Candidates who qualify atleast five subjects in the senior secondary school examination conducted by National Open School are eligible for the course. Students in general category should have a minimum of 60% marks and 55% marks are required for SC/ ST/ physically challenged students. Students who are born after October 1st, 1986 are only eligible for the exam. Age relaxation of five years is given to SC/ ST candidates.
In the total number of seats, 15% of the seats are for SC, 7.5% for ST, 27% for OBC, 3% for physically challenged people and remaining seats are for open competition.
