Every citizen of India is entitled to get enrolled in electoral rolls to vote in general election.  The minimum age for the applicants to enrol in electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu is eighteen years.  People with unsound mind and those who are punished or certain crimes are not allowed to vote.

In Coimbatore, Chennai and Madurai in Tamil Nadu enrolling in electoral rolls is during either intensive revision of summary revision.  During Intensive revision, enumerators visit every house in the constituency and register the particulars of all eligible members.  The copy of electoral card that contains all the details will be given to the head of the family.  Based on the electoral cards, draft rolls are prepared and published.  Claims or objections can be reported to the designated official in Tamil Nadu.  After disposal of all such things, final draft rolls are published.
