Can India create the record of winning the World Cup in own country? | Positions of various host countries in cricket World cups till now

India is hosting the cricket World Cup for the third time in 2011.  In 1987, India hosted the world cup and the champion that year was Australia.  In 1996, India again hosted the world cup along with Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka won the championship that year. India won the World Cup in 1983 at Lords and in 2007 at South Africa.  Will India be the champion at least this time and create history as the country which won the World Cup while hosting the tournament?

In 1987 cricket World Cup, India entered the Semifinals winning all the league matches but was unlucky as it could not win the semifinal match.  In 1996 World cup also India exited from the tournament unexpectedly.  The semifinal match played between Sri Lanka and India at Eden gardens, Calcutta only left the Indian fans literally crying with the horrible defeat in the hands of Sri Lanka.  Now another challenge is before Team India to make the cricket fans happy.  But it can be observed that generally the host countries of cricket World Cup do not win the championship.  This was experienced by teams like Sri Lanka which won the championship in India, England-which won the world cup four times and Australia-which also won the world cup four times.

During the matches which are played on the mother land, cricket teams play well and win most of the matches.  But this is not the case with World Cup.  There are many reasons for this.  Host team is under pressure when it is playing on the mother land and expectations of the fans, media that follows the team from practice matches to real matches, all create tension and anxiety in the players.  As a result they fail to do well in crucial matches.  During 1996 cricket World Cup semifinal match, fans were outraged and the stadium was almost set on fire.  Will India overcome these pressures and win the cricket World Cup is the biggest question before cricket lovers in India.
