It is the tradition of Hindus to go for ‘Vanabhojan’ in the month of Karitakam. Events like this help to develop social contacts and relationships.  People select the venue of  ‘Vanabhojan’ from the famous tourist spots.  Here are some picnic spots which can be decided as the venue of ‘Vanabhojan’ .


Shilparamam is one of the best picnic spots in Hyderabad.  This is a suitable place to spend a whole day with family. Rural museum and open theatre are the specialities of this place. Entrance tickets are Rs.25 for elders and Rs.15 for children. Bus number 10H from Secunderabad, 127K from Koti go to Shilparamam.

‘Vanabhojan’ is being organized on 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28 of November, 2010 and 4,5 of December, 2010. Various programs are conducted from 11.00am to 6.00pm.  Participants will have to book their tickets one day before.  Tickets are available at AP Tourism officer, Tank Bund and at Shilparamam.

Durgam Cheruvu

This is a good picnic spot for those who love boating.  This place is always busy with cinema shootings. Autos are available from Jubilee hills check post and Hitech city. Entrance ticket is Rs.30 for elders and Rs.15 for children. Rs.30 is charged for pedal boats for 20 minutes, Rs.40 for motor boats for 10 minutes.  Rs.1500 is charged for Dot com boat on which partying is allowed. Tourists can visit this place from 09.00am to 07.30pm.


Speciality of this place is the rock garden and big trees at Dwaraka garden.  Entrance ticket is Rs. 5.  Buses are available from Mehdipatnam.  Bus numbers are 120, 188.  From Koti bus number 94H takes the people to Gandipet. People who come from Secunderabad will have to reach Mehdipatnam first and then they will have to catch the bus from there to Gandipet.

Sanjivaiah Park

This park is situated on Necklace Road and can easily be accessed by all.  HMDA has recently developed it.  Various plant species, lotus pond and rock garden are the special attractions here. MMTS facility is available to reach this park from Lingampally, Nampally and Falaknuma.  Entrance tickets are Rs. 10 for elders and Rs.5 for children.  Park is open from 06.00am to 06.30pm.

Lumbini Park

Laser show, Toy train and various games for children are the attractions here.  Rs. 10 for elders and Rs.5 for children are the entrance ticket charges. Ticket for laser show is Rs.35.  These are given at 06.30 in the evening.  Laser show timings are 07.15 pm to 07.45pm.  Lumbini park also has the AP Tourism Boating point.  Visitors are taken for a ride on the boat for 45 minutes in Hussain Sagar. Rs.70 is charged for elders and Rs.50 for children.

Harini Vanasthali

This park is situated in the Vanasthalipuram and Autonagar road.  This was the forest area where Nizam Nawabs used to go frequently for hunting.  This is famous as a deer park.  Tigers, elephants and many species of snakes can also be seen here.  Butterfly Park is the special attraction here.  Bus number 290 from Secunderabad station, 299 from Nampally goes to Harini Vanasthali.  All the buses that go to Hayath Nagar from Koti go via Deer park.  From Koti it takes 45 minutes to reach this park when there is no much traffic. Rs.5 is charged as entrance tickets.  Safari charges are Rs.5.  This park is kept open for the visitors from 09.30am to 5.30pm.  Safari is open from 9.00am to 12.00am and 3.00pm to 5.00pm. Golconda Fort

Golconda fort belongs to Nawabs who ruled Hyderabad.  This is a suitable place to visit along with children.  A mosque and Mahankali temple are situated in this fort.  People can go to this place from 09.00am to 05.00pm.  Entrance ticket charges are Rs. 5 for Indians and Rs.100 for foreign tourists.  Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation has arranged a sound and light show at Golconda fort.  This show is available in English on every day at 6.30pm to 7.30pm.  This show is also available in Hindi on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7.45 to 8.45 and on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in Telugu from 7.45am to 8.45am.  Tickets for the show are Rs.100 for vip tickets, Rs.50 for ordinary tickets and Rs. 25 for children between 5 to 12 years.

Nehru Zoological Park

This is situated in Bahadurpura area of Old city of Hyderabad.  Many species of animals and birds are housed here.  Aquarium, Natural History Museum and Safari are the interesting places to visit in Zoo.  This is open for public from 8.30am to 5.30pm.  Monday is a holiday for the zoo.  Entrance tickets are Rs.20 for elders and Rs.10 for children. There is also a toy train which is enjoyed by elders and children alike.  Rs.15 and Rs.5 are charged for elders and children respectively. Aquarium entrance ticket is Rs.2. Buses which start from Rajendra nagar Bus stop near Osmania Medical College from Koti go to Zoo park.  Bus number is 94.

Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy Botanical garden

This is situated away from Hyderabad in Kothagud.  This is very convenient for groups who go for Vanabhojan in large numbers.  Specially 5 lawns are allotted for Vanabhojan.  Burma Bridge, spider web, archery, shooting and many adventure sports are available here.  Charges are collected separately for these sports.  Rs.15 for elders and Rs.10 for children is charged as the entrance ticket.  Rs.10 is collected in addition from those who come for Vanabhojan as cleaning charges. Visitors have to get down at Kothaguda junction from 10H bus from Secunderabad.  127K, 217K buses are available from Koti.
