Department of science and technology has introduced ‘Kishore Vignanik Protsahak Yojana’ in 1999 with an intention to make engineering, medicine and basic sciences students interested in researches in their respective fields. It is conducted by Indian Institute of Science, Benguluru.

Eligibilities:

Stream NA: Candidate should have been studying 11th standard in 2010-11 academic year. He or she must have scored at least 75% in maths and science while the same is 65% for SC/ST candidates.

Stream –SB +2: Candidate should have been studying 12th standard in 2010-11 academic year. Those who are aspiring to admit into graduation (B. Sc/ integrated M. Sc) in basic science in 2010-11 academic years are eligible. Candidate must have scored at least 75% marks in maths and science in 10th standard.

Stream-SB: Candidate should have been studying B. Sc / first year of integrated M. Sc in the academic year 2010-11. He or she must have scored at least 60% in science subjects in 12th standard, while the minimum score is 50% for SC/ ST candidates.

Stream SP (Basic Sciences): Candidate should have been studying 11th or 12th standard or B. Sc or first year or second year of integrated M. Sc. He or she must have scored at least 60% in 10th and 12th standard, while the minimum score is 50% for SC/ ST candidates. Along with them, hard copy of project should be attached.

Stream SP (Engineering): Candidate should have been studying first or second years of BE/ B. Tech/ B. Arch in 2010-11 academic year. Those who are studying second year should have scored at least 60% in the first year and it is 50% in the case of SC/ ST candidates. They must have scored at least 60% in 10th and 12th standards. It is 50% in the case of SC/ ST candidates. Along with them, hard copy of project has to be attached.

Stream SP (Medicine): Candidate should have been studying first year or second year of MBBS in 2010-11 academic year. He or she must have scored at least 75% in science subjects in 12th standard. It is 65% in the case of SC/ ST candidates. Or the applicants must have scored at least 60% marks in first year MBBS. It is 50% in the case of SC/ ST candidates. Along with them, hard copy of project has to be attached.

Scholarships

  • SA, SP – Monthly Rs. 4,000 + annual contingency of Rs. 16,000 will be provided.
  • SB, SP – Monthly Rs. 5,000 + annual contingency of Rs. 20,000 will be provided.
  • SB, SP – Monthly Rs. 7,000 + annual contingency of Rs. 28,000 will be provided.

SP (Engineering and Medicine): For second and third years, monthly Rs. 5,000 and annual contingency of Rs. 20,000 will be provided. In the next year, Rs. 7,000 will be provided monthly and annual contingency will be Rs. 28,000.

Application procedure: Candidates can apply online or application can be downloaded from the website. Or application can be got by sending a request letter along with pay in slip that is taken for Rs. 2,00 (Rs. 100 in the case of SC/ ST candidates) in favor of  administrative executive, KVPY account No. 10270577392 payable at all State Bank of India branches across the nation.

Selection procedure:

Basic Sciences (SA, SB): Written test will be conducted for these candidates. Written test, given in English and Hindi languages, will be conducted on 31st October for those who have been short listed based on the marks in board exams. After that, interview will be conducted.

SP (Basic sciences), SP (Engineering and Medicine): Candidates who are short listed through interviews (based on the project attached with the application) are called for interviews conducted in the month of December or January.

Last date for the receipt of applications is 10th September 2010.
