Who is Nirmohi Akhara and what is their history?  | Importance of Nirmohi Akhara and their involvement in Ayodhya Case

Nirmohi Akhara is a Hindu religious organization. It is one of the 14 Akharas spread across the nation. All these 14 Akharas are maintained by ‘Akhila Bharatiya Akhara Parishat’. Presently, Mahant Bhaskar Das leads Nirmohi Akhara. There will be much importance for these Akharas at the time of sacred baths observed on the occasion of ‘Kumbhmela’. It can be known that Akharas have been started in the year 547 AD. Since many years, Nirmohi Akharas are in fight for justice regarding property rights on disputed land in Ayodhya. On 17th December 1959, Mahants’ of those times, have filed a case that Babri Masjid is the birth place of Lord Rama, and asking the possession of that place. In the year 1885, Mahant’s of that times, have filed a case in the then Faizabad Court, seeking permission to build Lord Rama’s temple at Ram Chabutra, which is near to Babri Masjid. The then judge has felt that presence of praying places of two different religions at the same place might cause discomfort and hence has rejected the petition.
