Obtain driving licence in Sikkim

 

For obtaining driving licence in Sikkim, one has to approach the RTO office.  RTO office issues driving licence for all categories of vehicles.  All the persons who already possess the learner licence can apply for permanent driving licence.  Minors can also apply for a learner licence with the consent of their parents or guardians.  After 30 days of obtaining the learner licence, one can take the permanent driving licence.

Learner licence

Learner licence in Gangtok, Pelling, Gezing in Sikkim can be obtained from the RTO office by filling up the application form that is available and the cost of the application is Rs. 15.  A medical fitness certificate that is obtained from the medical authority, bank receipt for the amount for the category applied and two passport size photographs are to be submitted along with the application.  Concerned officer will scrutinize the documents and fill another form with the required details.  This form will be sent to the computer section where the details will be entered into the system.  Digital photograph of the applicant will be taken and then the learner licence will be issued.  In the computer section, the applicant shall pay a fee of Rs. 40.

Permanent driving licence

Permanent driving licence in Sikkim can be obtained one month after the learner licence is issued to the applicant.  Application form for obtaining permanent driving licence would cost Rs. 5.  Bank receipt for the vehicle category has to be obtained.  These particulars will be available at the form counter.  The application then has to be filled completely and a photograph of the applicant is to be pasted on it.  After submitting the application for permanent driving licence, the applicant will be called for a driving test which will be conducted by the Motor Vehicle Inspector.  Those who pass in the test will be issued the driving licence by the computer section when the applicant pays Rs. 200 for smart card driving licence.
