Obtain marriage certificate for special marriages in Maharashtra

For obtaining marriage certificate for special marriages in Maharashtra the following documents are to be submitted. Age of the bride should be 18 years and age of the bridegroom shall be 21 years at the time of marriage.

  • As an age proof certificate any two of the Birth certificate/School leaving certificate/HSC or SSC certificate/Passport copy or Driving license has to be submitted.
  • As an address proof any two documents from the ration card in which the name of the groom is present/Election ID card/Electricity bill in the name of groom or telephone bill/Driving license in which date of birth and address are present or bank passbook has to be submitted.

For registering special marriages in Maharashtra three witnesses should accompany both the parties.  Witness can be either the parents of the bride or groom or relatives and friends. Application form shall be filled by the prospect bride and bridegroom.  When the application is submitted, one month notice period will begin.  The applicant can married within two months after that.  The bride, bridegroom along with the witnesses shall come to the office.  They will receive the marriage certificate on the same day.

For obtaining marriage certificate in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur in Maharashtra for marriages which are already solemnized, one has to approach the Registrar’s office.  Age proof, address proof and two passport size photographs are to be submitted along with the application to obtain marriage certificate. The application form has to be filled in the presence of two witnesses.  As an evidence of marriage, the invitation card or the registration certificate given by the community shall be submitted.  Original ration card is also to be submitted for identification purpose. The marriage certificate shall be issued within seven days.

If either the bride or bridegroom is widow/widower or divorcee, they will have to submit the death certificate of the spouse and the divorce decree copy for registering the marriage in Maharashtra.
