Obtain Marriage Certificate in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

 

Indian government has made marriage registration compulsory and marriage certificate is the proof of registration. Marriage certificate would be useful for obtaining passport, changing maiden name etc. Marriage certificate can be obtained both under the Hindu Marriage Act and the Special Marriage Act. Concerned authorities for issuing marriage certificate in Andaman and Nicobar Islands are the Marriage Officer – Additional District Magistrate.

For obtaining marriage certificate in Car Nicobar, Port Blair, Diglipur in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the girl should have attained the age of 18 years and boy should be 21 years old. Any one of either the boy or girl’s party should have resided in Andaman and Nicobar Islands for thirty days prior to the date of issuing of notice.

For obtaining marriage certificate in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the bride and the bridegroom need to fill the ‘Second schedule notice of the intended marriage’. This declaration is done before marriage officer and is counter signed by him. After the solemnization of the marriage, marriage certificate is signed by both the bridegroom and the bride, which is required under Special Marriage Act, 1954. For obtaining marriage certificate the authority who is to be approached is the Additional District Manager in Deputy Commissioner’s office between 8.30 am and 5.00 pm.

Documents that need to be submitted along with the marriage certificate application in Andaman and Nicobar Islands are the declaration made by bride and the bridegroom, age proof which says that the bride has attained 18 years of age and the bridegroom has attained 21 years of age and the resident proof certificate. Rs. 50 is charged for issuing marriage certificate in Andaman and Nicobar islands.
