Obtaining birth certificate in Punjab

 

Birth certificates in urban areas such as Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana in Punjab can be obtained from the Assistant Registrar (Birth & Death) and in rural areas from District Registrar (Birth & Death). Member of the family in which a child birth has taken place can apply for the birth certificate.

Birth certificate forms in Punjab are available free of cost at the concerned offices or can also be downloaded from the website. The application should be filled and submitted to the authorities. The applicant will be given a receipt. The computer operator/cashier/clerk collects the required fee and the same can also be paid through a treasury challan. The certificate can be collected personally or through post for which a self-addressed envelope has to be submitted along with application.

The details mentioned in the application by the applicant to obtain the birth certificate in Punjab are verified with the hospitals and the certificate will be issued within seven working days. Birth should be registered within 20 days of the child birth. After 21 days the registration will have to be done by paying Rs. 1. Written permission of District Registrar, Births and Deaths in Punjab have to be taken for registering/issuing birth certificate from thirty days up to one year from the date of child birth. Order of Sub-Divisional Magistrate and an affidavit would be needed if the birth is not registered within one year.
