It is difficult to prepare budget for a family of four members. The task of preparing budget for a population of 120 Crores is not a small thing. In preparing the national budget for 2011-12, seven officials have participated along with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. Let us know more about them.

Kaushik Basu (Chief Financial Advisor for Finance Minister): Kaushik Basu worked as economics professor at Kernel University, America. Experts are of opinion that he is efficient in giving guidelines for UPA Government which aims at integrated development.

R.Gopalan (Secretary, Finance Affairs): Gopalan is an IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre 1976 batch. He has done master’s degree from Boston University. He has done MA in Public administration and management from Harvard University. He is expert in finding the pulse of banking field.

Sunil Mitra (Revenue Secretary): Sunil is an IAS officer from 1975 batch, hailing from West Bengal. He has played an important role in giving guidelines for UPA-2 investments withdrawal. He has joined in revenue department three back to the last budget (as on March 2011). He has extended his services in making the direct tax code appreciable by everyone.

Sumit Bose (Secretary for Investment Withdrawal): Sumit is an IAS officer belonging to Madhya Pradesh 1976 batch. He has played pivotal role in making Coal India Limited Initial Public Offer (IPO) successful. He has also played an important role in increasing public share holding through government investment withdrawals.

Sudheer Chandra (Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes): He is an Indian Revenue Services officer belonging to 1973 batch. He worked as chairman for important cases that income tax department has taken up.

Sumit Dutt Mujundaar (Chairman, Central Board of Excise and Customs): He has worked as chairman for Directorate of Revenue Intelligence before taking charge as member of Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC). Presently he is working as chairman of CBEC and he has played a crucial role in preparing guidelines for GST along with CBEC member Y.G. Parande.

Sushmanath: (Cost Secretary): She is an IAS officer of 1974 batch Madhya Pradesh cadre. Presently she is working as cost secretary in Finance Ministry department. Soon she is going to take charge of Finance Ministry Secretary from Ashok Chawla. She would be the first lady to take charge of this post. She has immense experience in preparing budgets and she is well known for her expertise in the same arena.
