SI written test paper pattern, important topics

SI written test is going to be held nearly after three years. SI written test is the most prestigious test conducted by Andhra Pradesh police recruitment board. Candidates should take the test as a challenge and prepare well to get success in the exam.

SI written test will consists of four papers. Duration of each paper will be three hours. Answers are to be written only with blue or black ball point pen. Half mark will be cut for each wrong answer. The candidates have to score minimum cut off marks in each paper. Paper 3 and Paper 4 will be conducted in both English and Telugu media. Candidates can choose their medium for the written test.

Paper – 1, Paper – 2 of SI written test

In Paper – 1 English knowledge of the candidate will be tested. Candidates have to attempt every question in this paper. Letter writing should be written in format. Do not forget to write name, date and address. For general essays candidates have to prepare topics related to police department and the problems faced by the society. Questions of Paper – 1 and Paper – 2 will be of degree level.

Paper – 2 is related to Telugu language. Telugu language usage and written skills of the candidates are tested in this paper. Questions in this paper will be on short essay, comprehension, Letter writing, paragraph writing, report writing, translation from Telugu to English etc.

In Paper – 3 – Arithmetic and Reasoning

For Paper – 3 of SI written test, candidates have to prepare well in topics like numbers and their properties, face values, place values etc. Any one of time, interest, interest or principle amount has to be find out. These have to be practiced well. Calculating compound interest, relation between simple interest and compound interest are the main topics in this paper.

  • In Ratios, compound ratios, inverse ratios, adding one number of lessening one number to the ratio etc questions are to be practiced.
  • In Averages, averages of natural numbers, average speed, averages of prime numbers, averages of odd numbers and even number are important.
  • Candidates should concentrate on percentages, profit and loss, Time and work, Time and money, Time and Distance chapters.

To answer questions in Paper – 3 of SI written test, candidates have to practice Mathematics books of 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th classes. Go through the old question papers.

Reasoning in Paper – 3 of SI written test

  • In verbal reasoning question from missing numbers, coding, decoding, ranking test, comparisons, letter series, logical Venn diagrams etc can be expected.
  • Non verbal reasoning: Dices, reflections, water reflections etc can be expected in this section.
  • Logical Reasoning: Candidates have to learn logic, arguments, statements etc for this section. R.S. Agarwal, TATA McGraw Hill Reasoning books are very useful for preparing for this section.

General studies

Paper – 4 of SI written test is related to general studies. General knowledge and current affairs are the important topics in this paper. Questions in standard general knowledge section will be from awards, sports, winners, persons in news, death of famous personalities, Indian traditions, science and technology related matters etc.

  • Terrorist outfits, social development programs of state and central government, missiles, agitations etc topics should also be read carefully. For these topics the candidates should read famous news papers and watch news in television.
  • Questions from India History and culture will also be asked in paper-4 of SI Written test. Jains, Buddhists, Civilizations are the important topics. In modern Indian history candidates should read 1857 Sepoy mutiny, national movements etc. Though it is not mentioned that questions on Andhra Pradesh history will be asked, as it is a part of Indian history students should read this topic also. Social studies books of 6, 7, 8, 9th and 10th classes will be sufficient for this preparation.
  • Candidates of SI Written test should prepare geography lesson from 6th to 10th class books. Civics and Telugu academy books of classes 8th to 12th should be studies for topics like UNO, Indian polity, Attorney General of India, chief minister, election, financial commissions, fiver year plans, budge, population growth rate etc.
  • In general science questions can be expected from human body, diseases, blood groups, vitamins, satellites, warships, war planes, researches etc.
