In Tamil Nadu, the registration of documents related to land and other immovable properties is done in the Registrar’s office and the concerned authority for doing so is the Sub-Registrar.

Properties situated in Tamil Nadu are registered in Tami Nadu only and the offices are to be approached for registrations are the Sub Registrar office in whose jurisdiction, the property is situated.  The Sub Registrar office also issued Encumbrance certificate relating to any land.  Ownership certificate of the land has to be taken from the Taluk office corresponding to the area in which the land is situated.
