Various types of vehicle registration services are offered in Punjab such as temporary registration, renewal of registration certificate, permanent registration, transfer of ownership, duplicate registration certificate, issuing no object certificate, residence change, vehicle categorization and registration marks on motor vehicles. Temporary registration of vehicles in Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala in Punjab is done by the registering authority and the application has to be written on a plain paper. Copy of sale certificate, road worthiness certificate, insurance certificate, pollution under control certificate, address proof, original sale certificate in case of ex-army vehicles, customs clearance certificate for imported vehicles and tax as specified by MVT act are to be enclosed along with the application. Temporary registration validity can also be extended to certain period by the registering authorities.

Permanent registration of vehicles in Punjab will require the application to be supported by all the above documents. Application for registration of vehicles shall be made in Form 20 to the registering authorities within 30 days from the date the vehicle delivery was taken. After receiving the application the authorities will assign registration mark and a registration number is also allotted for the vehicle.

Vehicle registration certificate in Punjab are to be renewed at least sixty days before the date of expiry of the registration certificate. Application for this has to be made in Form 25 and appropriate fee is to be paid. Vehicle registration certificate, pollution under control certificate and FC shall accompany the application.
