Under section 39 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, all the vehicles that are to be run in public places need to be registered with the registering authority. Physical inspection of the vehicle by the inspecting authority for particulars of the vehicle at DTO office is one of the procedures of vehicle registration in Mizoram.

Documents that need to support the vehicle registration application in Lunglei, Lawngtlai, Aizwal in Mizoram are the duly filled Form 20, Sale certificate issued by vehicle dealer in Form 21, Road worthiness certificate from the manufacturer in Form 22, copies of vehicle insurance, address proof, applicable road tax and prescribed fee.

Transfer of ownership of vehicle can be one by making an application in Form 29, 30 in duplicate in DTO office in Mizoram. Registration certificate in original, insurance certificate, clearance report from taxation department are to be submitted for vehicle registration in Mizoram.

Re-registration of vehicles that are already registered in some other states of India shall be done in Mizoram after a NOC if obtained from concerned state. Documents required for this are Form 28, 27, 20 and the registration certificate in original of other state, address proof and valid insurance.
