SBI Clerks posts Selection procedure | Subject-wise preparation and interview tips for clerk jobs of SBI

State Bank of India has released notification for recruitment of 6113 clerk posts. Intermediate candidates with 60% marks are eligible to apply.  Or graduates with 40% marks are eligible.  Age should be between 18 and 28.  Applications should be submitted before 30th of October.  Written exam will be held on 16th January.

Selection of SBI Associates Clerks consists of two stages. 1. Written exam (Objective type) 2. Oral Exam (Interview).

Written exam consists of five sections.

  • General Awareness
  • General English
  • Quantitative aptitude
  • Reasoning Ability
  • Marketing Aptitude/ computer knowledge

Though this written test is for recruiting clerks, exam syllabus is similar to the probationary officer’s written exam held by other banks. Marketing and Computer Awareness are additional sections.

Negative marks are given for the wrong answers.  Minimum qualifying marks are 40%. Minimum qualifying marks should be secured in each section.

Subject-wise preparation

  • General awareness section helps to secure more marks in less time.  Most of the questions are related to Economy and Banking.  Candidates should read the magazines like ‘Banking Services Chronicle’, Competitive Success Review’, ‘Business Line’ and other magazines which cover economy issues.
  • General English section is important as these marks are considered for merit ranking.  It is easy to get minimum qualifying marks if the candidate concentrates on basic concepts of Grammar.  Vocabulary, Comprehension is also important.
  • Quantitative Aptitude is a vast subject.  The syllabus of SBI Clerk exam is more.  Along with simplification and basic formulas, preparation of topics like Percentages, averages ratio & proportion, profits & loss, interests, partnership, Data Interpretation, Probability, Permutation and Combination and Algebra are important to score good marks in Quantitative Aptitude.
  • It should be observed that Critical Reasoning is gaining importance in the Reasoning section.  The number of Analytical reasoning questions will be more.  Statements and conclusions, cause & effect, assumptions, syllogism is also important.  Observe the given questions in reasoning to recognize the logic.
  • Marketing Aptitude and Computer Knowledge section is another section which enables to score good marks in less duration of time. Preparation for Marketing is generally a part of General Awareness.  Basics like Sales promotion techniques, Importance of Branding, Marketing Mix etc are a few basic topics in Marketing.
  • Candidates should have complete awareness of banking, services of other financial organizations, benefits and the methods of servicing etc.
  • Scoring good marks in Marketing Aptitude is easier if the candidate prepares well in Basics of Marketing and the present market trends.  Preparing for Computer knowledge includes basics in computers and the recent developments.  Since answering Marketing and Computer and knowledge sections in less time is possible, saved time can be used to answer other sections like Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning etc.

Interview

Candidate first should assess his own skills and awareness.  The candidate should prove his qualities like self confidence, sincerity and honesty before the interview board.  Personality of the candidate is tested in the interview, Read daily newspapers extensively to gather information about current affairs.
