Space Research organization IIST releases notification for admission into BTech and PhD | ISRO inducts the students as employees after completing BTech course
India is playing an important role in space research.  In this process India is planning to provide required training to interested youth and encourage them towards working for the development of this field in India. With this good intention ‘The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology’ is founded in Trivandrum.  Beginning from BTech, students can pursue their studies up to PhD here in this institute.

The objective of the institute is to create an atmosphere to train candidates to make them ready to face challenges arising in space programs, developing creativity and to encourage them.  IIST works with top institutes in India.

IIST started its activities on 14th September, 2007.  Newly built campus at Valiamala was inaugurated on 25th August, 2009.  Laboratory in this campus has all the necessary equipment.

BTech program offered by IIST which has four year duration is the most important course offered by this institute.  It is also offering Avionics, Aero Space Engineering and Physical sciences.  Total number of seats in these three courses is 156.

As part of BTech Avionics, Advanced Electronics in Digital and Communication, Control Systems, Computer systems used in Aerospace system are taught in addition to various electronics and communication programs.

Remote sensing and GIS, Astronomy, Astrophysics and Earth system science are given preference in BTech Physical Sciences.   BTech Aerospace Engineering course is like any other engineering course offered by prestigious engineering institutes.

Candidates pursuing BTech Aerospace course are allowed to study minor subjects in 5, 6 and 7 semesters.  Soft computing, Dynamic systems, Robotics, Astronomy, Navigation, Guidance and Control and Nanoscience etc are taught as minor subjects.  As part of the course candidates are allowed to participate in experiments conducted at ISRO centers and units.  These have a relation with the curriculum.  This opportunity is given to students of all three disciplines.  These students have to participate in two sets of experiments as batches. Other than this, a four week internship is offered in summer holidays in ISRO centers.  On the whole by the time the candidate finishes the course, they will have total technical awareness on the space activities.

Department of Science bores the whole expenses of the students including their fees, accommodation and food.  Rs.3,000 is paid as book allowance for each semester.  Candidates who successfully complete BTech are inducted as ISRO employees as per their rules.  So students who join this course should write a bond that they will work for five years in ISRO if they are taken as employees of ISRO.  This institute also offers MTech and research.  Adaptive and Applied Optics, Soft Computing and Machine Learning, RF and Micro Systems, Chemical system are the specialization available in MTech.
