The Vellore Institute of Technology of Tamilnadu which is established 26 years ago is one of the esteemed universities which is offering Qualitative and Quantitative education to the students in building their feature.  It was running under the North Orkat Education and charitable trust on the name of Vellore Engineering College.  Dr. Vishwanth who is well reputed parliamentarian is acting as a chancellor of VITS which is located in around 350 acres of the college campus.

The main target of this university is to provide qualitative education all over the country especially for the students who are coming from Village background.  The university is giving admissions to the students all over the world which includes USA, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Kuwait, and Libya, Saudi, Sri Lanka and many other countries including the students from India. The university is following this trend in order to bring out the Unity in Diversity by mingling all cultures and traditions in one place. Another main target of the university is to have great concern and personal care on the students regarding their education.  In order to give the qualitative teaching methods the university introduced the basic Infrastructure and Hi-tech Smart Classes for the better understanding of lessons by the students.  There is even the facility of Hostel for the students who come from various places.

The students of this university are given the opportunity to do one semester in one of the famous universities in the states. All the famous companies like the TCS, Cognizant, Wipro, Infosys, Intel and EBay are offering employment to the VIT students through campus interviews.

Specialties of VIT

–          The VIT is one of the famous recognized university by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) of UAS.

–          In the beginning stages the same recognition is given to the B.Tech mechanical and Civil engineering programs and this is valid from October 2007 to September 30 of 2015 which means for another 6 years.

–          The VIT is planning to get the recognition to all the programs of bachelor’s degree.

–          The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) have given ‘A’ grade to the VIT.

–          The India Today news paper has given “The best private Engineering Educational Institution” award in the June 2008.

Integrated Courses in VIT

VIT stands first in starting the integrated courses with a five year period. The VIT is offering five year integrated courses for the programs like M.Tech (Bio process Engineering), B.Tech (Chemical Engineering), M.Tech (Construction technology and management) besides B.Tech (Civil engineering), M.Tech pharmaceutical chemistry, M.Tech automotive electronics, M.Tech Sensor System technology, M.Sc bio medical genetics and MBA. This university is offering certificate courses in German, French, Chinese and Japanese languages.

Admission Process of VIT

There are in total 200 seats for the process of admission in the VIT. The candidate had to qualify the entrance exam with good score to get admission in this university. The VIT engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) and the management aptitude test is been conducted in around 96 cities and 200 centers. Around 1.48 lakhs of candidates appeared for the VITEEE 2009 entrance exam.  In the present year around 2 lakhs of candidates are appearing for the entrance examination which is going to be conducted in the month of April 16, 2010. The exam centers are Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Ananthapuram, Mahaboobnagar, Nellore, Nizamabad, Rajahmundry, Tirupati and Warangal. The last date for the submission of the filled applications of the entrance exam is February 27.

The candidates can get the applications from the head post offices by paying Rs.750 and the information regarding the post office are available in the website www. vit.ac.in in the same way the applications can get by taking the DD of Rs.750 payable at Vellore in favor of ‘VIT University’ and can also send the request through post. There is a facility to the NRI candidates to apply through online to get admission in to the VIT.

Eligibility Criteria for VIT courses

–          The candidates who got 60% of marks in physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology with pass mark in the intermediate are eligible to appear for the VITEEE exam in VIT. In case of SC/ST the candidates if secured 50% of marks is taken as the eligibility criteria.

–          The students who are appearing for the inter exams which are going to be conducted in the March/ April of 2010 are also eligible.

–          The candidates who are having Mathematics, physics and chemistry are eligible for all the programs.

–          The students with the background of physics, chemistry, biology are eligible to join only in the B.Tech bio informatics, Bio medical engineering and in the bio technology programs.
