With the permission of Pope XXIII, St. Johns Medical College has been established in the name of his security saint. It has been started in the temporary building at Bangalore in 1963 July. The then Karnataka state Governor, Sri. V.V.Giri has laid foundation for the own building of the college on 27th July 1965 and the then Vice President Sri Jakir Hussain has dedicated it the nation on 19th September, 1968.

This college built in the big campus of 132 acres has completed the different constructions in different stages. Presently, there is a 1200 bedded hospital attached to it. Along with this, nursing college offers all the courses ranging from general nursing and midwifery to M.Sc Nursing (Medical Surgery, Community health, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology).

It has set few goals for itself in regard of providing medical education according to the guidelines of CBCI Society. Since its inauguration, it is striving for achieving these goals. Every year 60 students are admitted here in this college which has high aims and goals. Religious sisters as well ladies have got 50% seats reserved here. SC, ST, BC students have 18 % seats.

Candidates with 50 % marks in intermediate or its equivalent with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as compulsory subjects are eligible. It is 40% in the case of SC/ST candidates. Final year intermediate students are also eligible to appear for the entrance test. 17 years of age should be completed as on 31st December, 2010. Applications are given in the name of the candidates. With this there is no chance of transferring the application to another candidate. Notification has been released. Applications are being given from 3rd March. Written test for the admission into MBBS is being conducted in 13 centers of our country. Centers are made available for the written in Hyderabad and Vijayawada and also in Bangalore and Chennai of the neighboring states. Duration of the test is 3 hours.

St. Johns Medical College Medical Entrance model paper pattern :
Exam will be in the morning session. Multiple choice questions will be given in physics, chemistry, biology, English and values based on Karnataka State syllabus. No preparation is necessary for the questions asked on values. One way it is purely aptitude test. Candidate is tested in regard to his awareness in the health protection, behavior, subject knowledge, morality, discipline, concern, integrity etc. Questions are asked within the goals and aspirations of the organization. So the candidates can answer these questions in accordance with his attitude. Do not imagine the answers relating to their opinion upon the college. Only the catholic candidates are given the questions regarding to the Christian principles, Bible, New Testament. Basing on the other records of the candidates, selection is done and the selected candidates are informed in the second week of July. Interview, psychological test and others are conducted in the third week of July. Candidates need to attend them on their own expenses. Accommodation facilities are to be arranged by themselves. Interview, psychological test and others will be conducted for 5 days. Fitness test is also conducted for the candidates by the college medical board. Final selection will be abiding to the results of this test. After that the list of selected candidates are put up on the notice board.

St. Johns Medical College Bond agreement:
Candidates need to sign a bond giving their willingness to work for specified period in the rural areas or prescribed towns or cities. The area or place will be decided by the college governing body. Those candidates who fail to serve in the rural areas should pay the six lakh rupees to the institution which is given as discount in the fee.

St. Johns Medical College Tuition fees for every term is Rs. 95, 000. In the beginning another additional Rs. 30,000 has to be paid in the form of other kinds of fees. Girls and boys hostels are present separately in the campus. Single room and cubicles are present in the hostel. Limited number of students will get merit cum means and scholarships.
