The joy when the information of selecting for the first job is received cannot be described.  It is very natural to have many wishes and hopes on the first job. The steps you take in the first job influence the opportunities in future.

Work atmosphere: Know everything about all the departments of the organization.  Know about various jobs, their duties and skills required.  This helps in setting targets for you.  Do not hesitate to clear any doubts.  Nobody thinks that you know everything.  It is dangerous to pretend to know everything.  Only when you express your doubts one can understand the interest you are showing in your work.

Work culture: Develop awareness about the work culture of the organization.  Stay away from office politics. Behave as per the values and systems liked by the company.  Observe the traditions followed by the organization in dressing and greeting styles.

Lessons from criticism: Do not feel depressed if someone criticizes your work.  There is no need to get angry also.  Keep the feelings under control and think leisurely.  Analyze the criticism and your working methods.  If necessary take the advice of the seniors to know your faults.  Accepting criticism in the starting of your career helps to improve the work method.

Extra time: Do not decide not to work extra time than the office hours.  Allotting more time helps to learn more. Even when the work assigned to you is completed, help others to learn more.  This sends the signals that you are ready to take up any responsibility which will be helpful to get promotions in future.

Be friendly with others: Develop acquaintance with many people.  Do not confine to your team.  Talk regularly to other people in the organization and develop friendship. This helps to develop leadership qualities.

Do not be in hurry: The work assigned to you may not be interesting in the beginning.  Do not show disappointment.  Complete the task given to you.  Showing disappointment may create a negative feeling about you.  They them self will assign new responsibilities to you if you finish the task given to you satisfactorily.  This is a natural process in the beginning of the career.

Technical knowledge: Organizations believe that present generation will have an awareness of the latest technologies.  Learn to use the new technology be it the new generation mobile phone or a new tool related to internet.
