Teachers Day celebrations in India

Teachers’ day is celebrated on 5th September in India. September 5th is the date of birth of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.  Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan is the first vice president of India and became the second president of India .  Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan is a professor in philosophy and his birth date ( 5th September) is celebrated as teachers’ day in India.

Teachers day ( September 5th ) is celebrated from 1962 in India. The occasion occurred accidentally when some students of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan wanted to celebrate the birth day of Dr. Radhakrishnan, he suggested them to celebrate teachers’ day on his birth date i.e.  5th September.

Teachers day is not a public holiday in India. Students act as teachers and they dress like teacher they like most and imitate them in the class and teachers act as students. This way the whole class becomes funny. Students and teachers enjoy a lot on teachers’ day.  Students honor the teachers and felicitate them on the occasion of teachers day.  Now a days students are greeting their beloved teachers by  sending SMS by phone for teachers day and  sending e greetings by email and greeting cards by post.
