In India there are 1120 pharmacy colleges and 80 thousand seats. Earlier, number of seats in each college was not exceeding 60. But this year, the number seats are increased to 120 in many colleges by AICTE. In some more colleges, permissions have been given to increase the seats to 180 from 60. Many colleges have also got permission to conduct second shift classes. But pharmacy professionals feel that this may have bad effect on the pharmacy education.

In Andhra Pradesh, 3 Government Universities and one Private University, 279 private pharmacy colleges are offering B. Pharmacy course.

Details of Universities colleges that are offering B.Pharmacy course are –

  • Andhra University, Visakhapatnam – 40 seats
  • Kakatiya University, Warangal – 60 seats
  • Sri Padmavati Mahila Univesity, Tirupati – 60 seats
  • Geetam University, Visakhapatnam – 60 seats

In Andhra Pradesh, 21,565 seats are available in 279 private colleges. Second shift seats are not included in this.

    the pathetic condition came over in such health profession, It was matter of 2000 Yr. when there were only few seats (Masters in Pharmacy ; 90 seats total in all three neabouring state Guj rajasthan and M.P.), now only in rajasthan and in Gujrat there is arround more than 700 are sanctioned from AICTE.

    It is surprising that in our country (Rangareddy district ) is in first position with in Andhra Pradesh with 47 pharmacy colleges with total Number of seats 3,360. Now there is vigrous need to control such mushroom breeding of such institutions
