Registering all the vehicles is mandatory for driving them in public places. Concerned department should have all the particulars of the vehicles and its owner with them. Application for registration of new vehicle in Kerala shall be submitted to the registering authority in the jurisdiction where the applicant has his house or business. The registration of vehicle will have to be done within seven days from the day the vehicle has been taken delivery. Application in Form 20 shall be used for registering the vehicle.

After receiving the application form, registering authorities in Kerala conduct inspection of vehicle and give an acknowledgment receipt to the applicant. A vehicle number will be allotted and is displayed in the notice board of the registering authority office and also in the website of the department www.keralamvd.gov.in. Registration certificate will be sent to the address mentioned by the applicant in the application by speed post within 3 days.

Regional Transport Offices and Sub Regional Transport Offices shall be approached for registering vehicles in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Munnar in Kerala.
