VERBAL ABILITY division of CAT exam | Details of VERBAL ABILITY division, syllabus, exam pattern of CAT exam

There may not be much change in the pattern of question when compared to previous year.  Length of Reading Comprehension passages may be less.  There may not be much difference in the standard of the questions, as the answers have to be identified by reading the comprehension on the monitor.  Reading Comprehension consist jumbled sentences, sentence correction and paragraph completion.  Practice reading editorials of English new papers and English novels on the monitor to answer this section. The standard of the questions in CAT are near to the English magazines like Wall street Journal and Telegraph.

Candidates find Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension as tough sections.  To get good score in this division, candidates have to read English essays and novels.  Various subjects like Medicine, Philosophy, Mythology, Anthropology, Arts, Sports, Culture, Business, and Economics etc have to be studied.

After identifying the correct answer, analyze why the other options are not correct.  While forming the questions, some options are given which are close to the answer.  The main reason for not identifying the correct answer are not understanding the passage and not having the habit of reading.  Solution for this is to select good reading material for preparation.  If the preparation is good it is not difficult to overcome the cutoff mark in each division.  It is easy to correct sentence in ‘Sentence Correction’ in grammar if Analysis of sentence and Phrase and Clause analysis are studied well.  Practice Idiomatic Usage, Subject and Verb agreement, Pronounce Errors, Modifiers, Parallelism and Phrasal Verbs are to be practiced to correct the sentences.
