What was Santali rebellion? | When and why did Santali rebellion take place?

After the Plassy war, East India Company had occupied many kingdoms and made them lose their freedom. Those who had lost their kingdoms revolted against the British and the east India Company had also established their rule in all the areas. The British people also captured the hilly areas where the people used to rule themselves. The British appointed their people as heads and they used to put tax on the income of the people in hilly regions. Most of the hilly areas people revolted against British and Santali rebellion is one these revolts. The Santalis used to stay in the Rajmal hilly areas and they revolted against the British for the evils in their area in 1855. In the same year on June 30th, the Santali leaders Siddhu and Kanumarma revolted against the British with 10,000 people and declared independence. Then British had sent its huge army against the Santalis and killed these two leaders. Even though the leaders were killed, the revolt gave an inspiration to the Santali people and changed the British rule in many ways.
