It is general to make the wife sit to the left of the husband. But during marriage the bride is made to sit in the right sometimes or left or in front.

Situations where bride will be at left:

  • The bride should be placed at the left side of the bridegroom while they are doing the sacred pooja called punyahavachanam.
  • While doing the sankalpam, the bride should be placed at left side. In this program, they will decide to do one work and they tell the details of their place, name, nakshatra and gothranamam to god with devotion.
  • The bride should be seated to the left of the bride groom while the purohit is doing the rakshabandanam program to save the parents of the both members from evils.
  • At the time of the sacred programs like yukthra viyochana and sthalipaka, the bride should be placed at the left. These programs are done to remove the mistakes which were done during the marriage and to pray the fire god.
  • The aashirvachana program is done to take the blessings of the elder people in order to be healthy, wealthy and to get good children. The bride is placed at the left side of the bridegroom at this time.

Bride should be placed at right side:

The bride should be places at right side in the orograms like pradana homam, pravesa homam and sesha homam.

 

Face to face:

The bride and bridegroom should sit by facing each other in the programs like madhuparkani, kanya swekara, mangalya dharana, brumarjana, kanyamoordhabhisheka, yokthrabhandanam and thalambralu.

 

At the time of kanyadhanam:

The kanyadhanam is the special program in the marriage and at this time, the bride should be seated at the left side of her father and the bride’s mother should be placed at the right side of the bride’s father.
